Spot On!
Schumann was fantastic. The energy was all there, the music was perfect, and it was a truly enjoyable show. It was a nice change to be able to afford better seats than I did when I was 20, so I could actually WATCH the entire performance, when I wasn't headbanging. The crowd was a good mix of ages and very respectful. The only thing preventing me from giving it a 5-star rating (I'd give it 4.5 stars for sure!) is that there wasn't anything truly remarkable or extraordinary that stood out. It felt like they delivered what they intended to do, and I got my money's worth. I am thrilled they performed, and I am pleased I decided to attend!
Although my husband and I have been fans of Schumann for approximately a decade, we have recently become bigger fans of Gogol Bordello, which is why the opportunity to see both in the same show was the deciding factor for us (we usually don't attend shows because we tend to be a bit lazy). It was an unusual experience for us as typically the "opening act" is unfamiliar to us, and we try to be courteous, but not overly excited. This time was different as we were genuinely excited to see Gogol, and most of the individuals in our section were coming in as we were already rocking out!
They performed admirably and seemed to acknowledge their role as the opening act. Their set felt less intimate compared to their usual shows, it followed a rather linear and formulaic structure, and had a rock-show vibe. Nonetheless, it was a great performance, and I believe they might have gained a few new fans that evening. I look forward to the day when they headline a smaller venue :D
